Whitening

Due to extremely high interest in our whitening procedures and products, we have decided to place this menu on our website to improve our clients' understanding of the procedures and make it easy for our clients to choose the product and procedure that best suits their needs.

Before you start exploring these options, please be aware that whitening your teeth may not be the most appropriate course of treatment for heavily stained, heavily restored or otherwise problematic teeth. We strongly urge you to consult  with our dentist in order to confirm whether whitening alone will give you the results you want, or whether you may be more suited to other types of cosmetic or restorative treatments we can offer. You can either arrange a short consultation appointment or a new patient examination and a hygiene visit* (examination, clean and radiographs, if necessary) to discuss your needs, wants and expectations with our dentist and our hygienist.

(*Cost of new patient examination is $100, minimum cost of the hygiene visit is $150. This cost is NOT included in the price of ANY of the whitening treatments)

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR REGULAR CLIENTS WHO ATTEND ON TIME FOR THEIR SIX MONTHLY PREVENTATIVE CARE APPOINTMENTS AND HAVE ALREADY USED OPALESCENCE TAKE-HOME WHITENING SYRINGES WILL RECEIVE ONE SYRINGE PER YEAR FREE OF CHARGE AS A LOYALTY GIFT, EVERY YEAR THEY ATTEND! This means that if you are a regular attender, once you have whitened your teeth at our practice, we guarantee to keep them white, at no extra cost to you, EVER!

All whitening treatments cause some degree of sensitivity. Our product of choice (Opalescence) is a number one rated product by dentists world-wide and is proven to cause less sensitivity than other products on the market, whilst achieving excellent long-term results. Any fillings you may have, especially in your front teeth, will not whiten during your treatment and may need to be replaced after whitening to match the new brightness of your teeth.

We take pride in the products and procedures we offer as we believe them to be the best and most scientifically sound treatments available, but your compliance with our advice is paramount for achieving the ultimate results.

Opalescence Tres White- "over the counter" whitening

This is an 'over the counter' treatment, manufactured by a 'real' dental company with a formidable reputation (Ultradent) which supplies us with all of our whitening products.  The product comes in packs of ten lower and upper pre-formed and pre-filled trays. These trays are worn for 1hour during the day. You do not need to have a check up and a clean if you opt for this treatment. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide in these trays is low enough for them to be safe for everyone, but high enough to give good results, better than most other over the counter treatments you buy at pharmacies or supermarkets. Should the 10 treatments not be enough for the brightest result, you can purchase another pack of ten treatments. As this is an ‘over the counter' treatment, we rely on your own judgment regarding the shade changes of your teeth and we take no responsibility for ultimate results.

COST: $300.00 (10 upper and lower trays)

Opalescence PF (20%, 35%)- "take-home" whitening

You can have your own, custom made trays and a professional grade product (Opalescence PF) to whiten during the day or night at your own convenience. The end result of this treatment is exactly the same as any other treatment we are able to provide. The lenght of treatment can be anywhere from 5 to 20 days/nights, depending on the starting shade and methods of use. As this is a professional grade product, we require you to have an examination and a clean (radiographs are optional)* before you start the whitening treatment, in order to establish whether you are likely to experience any complications from this treatment.  We take responsibility for the end-result and ensure we follow up the progress of your teeth throughout treatment.

In your initial treatment pack you will receive: your custom made, thin, silicon trays; 2 syringes of whitening gel, usually in two different concentrations; a tube of gentle, calcium-rich Toothmousse to counteract sensitivity and help stabilize your new shade; a complimentary whitening toothpaste (subject to availability).

You will return for a review of your shade two weeks after you begin treatment or once you have used up the initial two syringes we have issued. Should we assess that you can further improve your shade, we will issue you with one or two more syringes (free of charge) to continue your treatment and then review your teeth shade again, once you have finished.

Studies have shown that a repeat whitening treatment may be required 24 months after your initial whitening treatment. You will then need to purchase one or two syringes of the whitening gel only! These currently cost $70 per syringe. You should then only need to whiten one night per each week you initially whitened your teeth.

COST: $450.00 (for the whole duration of whitening)

Opalescence Xtra Boost- "in-office" whitening

This treatment consists of a one-hour session in our practice where an extra strong product (Opalescence Xtra Boost) is applied to your teeth 2-3 times during one session for 15-20 minutes at a time. Your cheeks and lips are being held apart by a retractor placed inside your mouth for the duration of the treatment. This process provides a good initial result with a relatively quick and marked improvement in shade, but cannot be guaranteed to brighten your teeth to their brightest possible shade in just one session, so you may need to return for more sessions. During the whitening session in the chair you also experience some dehydration of your teeth, which automatically makes your teeth look brighter than they are, so 48hours later, once they re-hydrate, your teeth may not appear to be as bright as at the end of the appointment. Due to the strength of this product, should you require further sessions, manufacturers recommend only one of these whitening sessions per week. Therefore, the length of treatment can be anywhere between 1hour and 3 weeks.

In our practice we use Opalescence Xtra Boost for our in-chair treatments. This product is activated by mixing the two components of the product immediately before the whitening session, hence does not require light or laser activation and therefore does not increase the inside temperature of the tooth (which could lead to nerve damage).

As we take responsibility for the results you achieve with our professional treatments, we require you to have healthy, clean teeth before you start. You may have just had a check up and a clean elsewhere or you may be overdue for one. If latter is the case, we would then do a check up and a clean at your initial appointment and advise you to return for your whitening appointment at a separate time (to avoid increased sensitivity immediately following a clean). We will also make a note of your starting shade and follow this up after the treatment is complete.

COST: $450 (per session)

Combination whitening package

You can also have a combination of in-chair and take home (custom trays) whitening. This involves one one-hour session in the chair and a set of custom made trays and product (packaged to include all the components of the 'take-home' whitening described above) to continue whitening at home. It is the manufacturers' recommendation to commence home-whitening sessions 48hours following in-chair whitening, to allow your teeth to rehydrate sufficiently. The length of treatment can be anywhere between 2 days and 15 days.

As per all the professional whitening instructions above, you would be required to have an examination and clean (possibly radiographs) before commencing this treatment, unless you have recently (3 months ago or less) had your exam and clean elsewhere.

COST: $800 (includes all the components of the 'in-chair' and 'take-home' whitening treatments)
