Restorative CareWe provide a full range of evidence-based dental services with the view of the long term success of our treatment and long term retention of your teeth. This means that we endeavor to provide care that has significant long term survival rates. We do not only look at immediate problems, but at the whole picture. We educate and pre-warn you about problems that may be around the corner and devise a treatment plan to suit your life and your priorities. This may at times include:1. RESTORATIONS (Fillings)We offer a range of options when it comes to fillings. We try to use white (composite) fillings when possible, but at times we may need you to opt for an alternative that will work better and protect your teeth longer. 2. ROOT CANAL TREATMENTRoot canal therapy is a process of eliminating bacteria from root canals- small canals inside the roots of teeth where nerve endings normally exist. It consists of two or more appointments during which the inside of a tooth is cleaned, shaped and filled. The large access cavity in the crown of the tooth is then sealed. A crown is essential to protect a root filled tooth from fracturing and it should be placed on the tooth within 6 months to a year of the root canal treatment. 3. CROWN AND BRIDGE TREATMENTOver time, heavily filled teeth become compromised and weak. They also present an aesthetic problem. It is recommended that heavily filled teeth are crowned (capped) in order to minimize excess loads on weak tooth structure and help you retain your teeth longer. If there are toothless ‘gaps’ in the mouth- a bridge may be a suitable replacement option. This is a laboratory made structure (usually made out of porcelain) that ‘bridges’ a gap between two teeth by ‘sitting’ over the existing teeth on each side of the gap. It remains in place for a number of years. 4. IMPLANT-SUPPORTED TOOTH REPLACEMENTAn alternative to a bridge, implant supported tooth replacement exceeds the longevity and occasionally, aesthetics of a bridge and is a far superior treatment option in carefully selected, suitable cases, where one or more teeth may be missing. This is a sophisticated medical prosthesis and is retained for life.
