Teeth Whitening in 2015

Have you always wanted whiter teeth?

Another new year, another new year’s resolution list perhaps for some of us, and one of those items

on your wish list maybe whiter teeth. Here is a few ways your wish could come true.

The Zoom WhiteSpeed TM system is the quickest and most convenient way to immediately achieve the

new, bright smile you have always wanted in just one appointment.

Zoom in-office tooth whitening is a procedure designed to lighten the colour of your teeth using a

combination of a light reactive hydrogen peroxide gel and a specially designed visible LED lamp.  The

Zoom whitening procedure involves using the gel and lamp in conjunction with each other to produce

maximum whitening results in the shortest possible time. The process takes just an hour and a half

and the results can last for years.

At “The dentist” at 70 Pitt street, we also include a complimentary prescription strength home

maintenance kit to help you maintain your new smile and keep it looking its best.

Or you can take home our prescription-strength, home whitening kit which includes special custom

dental trays that fit over your teeth so you can whiten in the comfort of your own home and watch

the results occur. These can be used for an hour each day or overnight whilst you sleep, for

approximately one week and we are confident you will be happy with the results.

It is important to make a short visit to our office prior to commencing whitening. Dr Walsh will ensure

that your teeth are suitable and select the most appropriate whitening option for you. A professional

clean prior to proceeding with whitening is recommended by the hygienist to ensure that the teeth

are not obscured by calculus deposits and the gums and teeth are healthy. This will allow for optimal

whitening results. We look forward to brightening your smile and making you look and feel great.

At Dr Walsh’s office you can be assured that you will only be treated by a fully qualified professional.

You will always receive the highest quality service and be completely satisfied with your treatment.

Will teeth whitening work for me?

Only your dentist can determine if whitening will work for you. The results from whitening vary from

person to person depending on your existing tooth colour, lifestyle factors and oral hygiene. Here at “

the dentist at 70 Pitt street, we like to issue all of our Zoom patients with a complimentary prescription

strength home maintenance kit to keep your teeth looking bright long after your complete your Zoom

procedure.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Our whitening systems are perfectly safe for use by adults. The structure of your teeth and gums

remain the same, only the tooth colour is made lighter. In recent times whitening treatments have

become available at beauty therapists and in some shopping malls. Whitening treatments performed

by non dental professionals can be dangerous and the results are often substandard. Our qualified

dentists and dental hygienist provide the best possible results, leaving you with a smile you can be

proud of.

Will my crowns or fillings become lighter?

Unfortunately, crowns and white fillings will not lighten during the whitening process. If desired, these

can be replaced with a lighter shade to match your new, whiter smile.

What causes teeth to discolour?

There are a variety of factors that could lead to both internal and external tooth discolouration. While

many of these factors are preventable, discolouration is a process that will naturally occur as you get

older.

• Smoking - Smoking can lead to a number of health and dental problems, however the main

problem linked with smoking is tooth discolouration. Smoking or even chewing tobacco will stain

your teeth.

• Enamel thickness
- The thickness or appearance of enamel can be affected by genetic or

developmental conditions. It can also be washed away by acid erosion or worn away by grinding

and clenching. The thinner the enamel, the darker your teeth will appear.

• Hygiene - Regular brushing and flossing is required to prevent stains or plaque build-up.

• Food and drink - Your diet can have a huge effect on the colour of your teeth. Tea, coffee and

wine can all stain your teeth, while eating particular fruits can also lead to discolouration.

• Disease/Sickness -
If you were prescribed certain antibiotics or medications as a child or had

an ongoing illness as a child, this may have caused tooth discolouration.

• Age
- Discolouration is a process that will naturally occur when you get older as the dentine

layer of your teeth gets darker.

Tooth discolouration caused by smoking, dental hygiene and food and drink can be improved by a

professional scale and clean with your dental hygienist. Tooth discolouration that has occurred with

age can be improved with teeth whitening. Discolouration caused by enamel thickness and disease/

sickness often requires tailored and individual approach to either lighten or mask the damage.
